Binance Coin (BNB) is the native token for both Binance Smart Chain (BEP-20) and Binance Chain (BEP-2). Initially launched on the Ethereum blockchain in 2017, BNB now powers all operations within the Binance ecosystem. It was introduced through an initial coin offering (ICO) in 2017, with half of its capped 200 million tokens made available to the public, while the remainder was allocated to angel investors and the founding team.
Originally designed as a utility token for reduced trading fees, BNB has since grown to serve various functions, both within and beyond the Binance platform.
